Fashion Interior : Pastel Pretty

Fashion and home decor trends go hand-in-hand, whatever is popular on the runway will quickly become popular in home decor. The spring summer 2012 runways showcased various trends and pastels ruled the catwalks of many designers, from Chanel and Vera Wang to Versace and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Subtle use of pastels were featured by some, and other designers mixed two or three pastel tones in one outfit. This trend can easily be translated into a home decor scheme of any style.

Pastels are beautiful muted tones that can be mixed together or used against bolder colours such as jewel tones. This trend has a few necessary precautions, for instance you may not achieve a modern decor scheme if used on vintage furniture or by mixing pastel floral patterns – you may end up with ‘grandma’s house’ rather than pastel chic. A great way to avoid a dated look is to use modern pieces and mix in chrome or silver metal tones – be careful when using brass with this trend! Our jumping off point was this amazing pastel watercolour painting, and next we chose this modern steel grey velvet sofa with silver nail head detailing. Next was the linen pin-tucked occasional chair, also with silver nail head detailing and the chrome and glass cross coffee table to add another modern touch. The accessories are simple and understated, to give the painting and beautiful furniture pieces the spotlight, a glass base table lamp, woven throw pillow and pretty cherry blossoms to finish out the room.
