Designer Picks : Laura’s Pop of Yellow

Laura’s Pop of Yellow :

Benjamin Moore announced the colour of the year for 2013 as Lemon Sorbet 2019-60, a soft sunny shade of yellow. Yellow as a paint colour sparks optimism, enlightenment and improves energy and creativity in a space. It stimulates memory and mental activity, encourages expression and communication. A great way to start your day – yellow is often a choice for kitchens.

As an accent colour in decor yellow can create a dramatic effect to your room by using a deeper, richer yellow such as Benjamin Moore’s HC-11 Marblehead Gold.  In theory yellow is the most visible colour, so when using it for your accent, you don’t need a lot. Try some pillows, a vase or some flowers to create a pop of colour in your room. For those needing more , yellow textured fabric is being used for occasional chairs and definitely adds warmth to a space. Wallpaper is always a great choice to add some yellow to your space. Yellow is often paired with gray for a subtler look or use lots of the hue for over the top drama.

From subtle to dramatic- Which way will you be adding yellow to your décor this year?

  1. I love the fabric and the vases. Actually I love all of the yellow picks. I agree that a little bit goes a long way as an accent color. I could definitely see myself brightening up a client’s space with golden yellow shades.
