Dressing Up the Colour of the Year
Just as you accessorize your favourite outfit to either dress it up or down, you can also make your wall colour stand out or fade away by introducing different accent colours to accessorize it.
Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the year for 2015 is Guilford Green (HC-116). This silvery gray green is becoming forefront as the go to neutral colour for your walls. While normally you would think of whites, grays or beiges as neutral colours, this soft shade of gray green has earned its stage presence as a perfect neutral backdrop to showcase your home accessories.
When combining different accessories with Guilford green, this colour can take on a gray tone and fade off into the background or can pop showing off its warmer green hue. If you want this colour to pop, try combining it with crisp white with either black or navy accents. If you are looking to showcase your wall try painting your trim, doors & windows gloss black. With crisp white furniture and black & white décor accessories your wall colour will shine. For a fresh beachy or nautical feel in your room combine white and navy decor accents with Guilford green walls and it will bring out the warmer side of this colour. If a softer look is what you are trying to achieve, soft pinks and cream accessories will bring out the soft gray green in your walls. And by introducing gray accents and furniture it brings out the muted gray tone.
My favourite look is combining Guilford Green with soft whites and tans. This light airy look brings natures neutral as the backdrop and when blended with the textures of wicker, linen , sisal and the natural elements of wood and greenery, the silvery green tone ties together the nature outside and brings it inside your space.
