Coastal Comfort

There is nothing more soothing than the sound of the ocean, so why not bring this coastal calmness inside your home. With the heat that summer brings, it is so nice to retreat to a cool place to relax & unwind.

Taking inspiration from the sea, Benjamin Moore created a coastal palette of colours in their 2013 trends. They have combined the relaxing & soothing colours of Stratton Blue (HC-142), Lemon Sorbet (2019-60) and Tranquility (AF-490), with the watery hue of HC-145 Van Courtland blue and the freshness of Simply White (OC-117). Together this palette gives a fresh casual look and a seaside relaxing atmosphere.

To ground this palette, add in natural accessories with lots of different textures. Try a feature wall or back a bookcase with grasscloth- the one featured above is Beijing Grasscloth from Joanne Fabrics. There are some beautiful natural reed window coverings in the Levelor blind collection for your windows and ground the room with a sisal rug. Distressed wood furniture, rope & hyacinth accessories along with the classic seaside features of glass and pottery will finish off the look.

For a pop of colour there are so many fun fabrics to choose from in the coastal palette. Don’t be afraid to mix up the patterns of fabric for pillows, or reupholster a chair or stool.

And if the relaxing seaside makes you want to nod off…..there is an oversized hammock for the porch and a perfect spot for an afternoon nap.
