Home Trend : Concrete Accents

Concrete is an amazing material to work with, it’s completely customizable both in shape and colour, it has a limitless amount of applications and it is a modern finish. Using concrete in outdoor settings has become extremely popular, and not in the usual sense, now concrete is being used for custom outdoor furniture and decor accents. With the growing popularity of the material, concrete has been used in interior applications for quite some time and the trend seems to have become a staple in modern design.

Concrete can be cast in many shapes and forms and stained in an array of colours. I prefer the natural, raw state of the material with a simple clear finish. How do you like concrete in an interior? Would you add it to your home?

Below we have featured some of our favourite concrete decor accents available at Mountain Home Decor in Whistler, BC. These pieces are a great way to add a touch of industrial chic to your spaces.

DIY : Mason Jar Vases

Try Benjamin Moore: Ice Milk CSP-1025, Burnt Ember CSP-120 + accent with Citron 2024-30. The vases are fresh flower friendly too!

– An assortment of mason jars (size is up to you!)
– An assortment of Benjamin Moore’s Aura paint in any colour you like. Aura will adhere to the glass and provide a durable finish all in one!
– Foam brushes
– 50 grit sandpaper or sanding sponge

Note: If Aura is not available to you, use the Stix primer to create a base that will adhere to the glass. Once the Stix is dry you can use whatever paint you like.

1. Paint two coats of aura on mason jars. We painted the outside of our jars to allow for clean glass on the inside to accommodate water for fresh flowers.
2. Once the two coats are dry, use a sanding sponge or 50 grit sandpaper to distress the finish.
3. Remove the centre portion from the metal lids and screw the other potion back on, this adds a little sparkle and finishes the top nicely.

Fashion Interior : Laser Cut Details

mhd_fashion interior_laser cut designs

Fashion and home decor trends go hand-in-hand, whatever is popular on the runway will quickly become popular in home decor. The Spring + Summer 2013 runway shows featured many bold and graphic trends, however the ethereal laser cut detailing from designers such as Valentino and Christian Dior make for amazing summer home decor inspiration.

Laser cut detailing has become a growing trend over the past 5 years due to the advances and availability of laser cutting technology. These fine cut out details were present in past designs such as eyelet and crochet, but the precise nature of a laser cut design is what makes this trend so current. Here we have featured home decor pieces inspired directly from the fashion runways to take this trend into your home!

Designer Picks : Katelyn’s Purist – Modern Undone

PURIST : Modern Undone

The stark modern interior has evolved this season to having a softer more handcrafted quality. Bold geometrics and simplistic forms have been reinvented or paired with more yielding delicate treatments. Treatments such as bounding or wrapping, applique, & block printing. Think clean geometry combined with soft textures, raw edges & organic materials.

Pulling the look together is this soft geometric printed wallpaper from Philip Jeffries. Wire sphere pendants are guaranteed to add amazing texture & interest to any space. This crumpled paper print is pure and simple and I adore this cobalt glass vase. It demands presence, I can see it standing strikingly in the midst of this amazing Mud dinnerware from 18 karat. As for a touch of whimsy, these creature-like stools with linen upholstery. How would you feel about blurring the lines in your crisp modern interior?
